New Film “Reparando” Explores Theology of the Cross
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Once you start getting to know people who are suffering, you can’t help but wonder how to see God in their midst or how to explain Christ’s death on the cross as good news for them now. Joel Van Dyke, a missionary who works in Guatemala’s slums and prisons, helps urban missions graduate students flesh out [...]

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
We have been blessed to receive and reflect on year-end reports from 2009 recipients of Worship Renewal Grants. The reports tell of both pain and growth in worshiping communities around the continent. Here are some excerpts from responses we received to our year-end questions.

Following the model of Jesus, who often “went off to a solitary place and prayed” (Mark 1:35), Calvin Christian High School teacher Scott De Young organized a spiritual retreat weekend at The Hermitage in Three Rivers, Michigan, for students and faculty from his school. Scott writes, “If you’re somewhat unfamiliar with the idea of spiritual [...]

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
The Calvin College Student Activities Office hosted a tremendous event here at Calvin last weekend, the Festival of Faith and Music 2009. That website will eventually have some audio files from the conference, and I hope to post a brief Q&A with two of the conference organizers, my friends Rob and Kirstin, in the next [...]

'The True Self' at CCblogs
Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
From CCblogs: It seems more clear all the time that who I really am has been encrusted over the years by layers and layers of self-protection. This is what the contemplatives call the artificial self or the false self. What also seems just as clear is that openness to realism and honesty about who I’ve [...]

Dirty fingernails after Ash Wednesday
Thursday, March 19th, 2009
From one blogging pastor in the CCblogs network: Every year after Ash Wednesday, it takes a while for me to clean out the ashes completely from under my fingernails. I don’t know if other ministers have this problem, but like most ministerial burdens, this one is also a blessing. In a middle-class church like mine, [...]
