Ya’at’eeh. This week I have the privilege of attending the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous Peoples. This conference is held every 2-3 years in the land of the indigenous tribe or group that is hosting the gathering. This year we are in New Zealand as the guests of the Maori people.

North Westminster Presbyterian Church is a new congregation formed by two churches in Lansing, Michigan. United in faith and ministry, they are exploring ways to shape and express this new identity. A year of learning focused on their gathering at the Lord’s Table will develop visual art and liturgy to deepen faith and an understanding of purpose.

Rector Meghan Froehlich welcomed me to Our Saviour Episcopal Church in downtown Akron. A warm fire set the stage for conversation about the Worship Renewal project which is bringing together seven Episcopal churches to create assessment and formation tools for music in worship. It is their prayer that the process will promote a deeper engagement of church members and leaders of the role of music in connecting them with God, one another and the wider community.

The Worship Renewal Team of leaders from Seventh Day Adventist churches scattered throughout South Carolina gathered late on Wednesday afternoon with me and Project Director Karen Thrower to describe the growing enthusiasm and engagement of many people in the grant project focused on prayer. For more than a year individuals from these churches have come together for a phone conversation each Thursday evening at 9:00 to share prayer requests and give thanks for answered prayers. This grant project expands on this practice of prayer.
