A Spiritual Formation Retreat
Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Following the model of Jesus, who often “went off to a solitary place and prayed” (Mark 1:35), Calvin Christian High School teacher Scott De Young organized a spiritual retreat weekend at The Hermitage in Three Rivers, Michigan, for students and faculty from his school.
Scott writes, “If you’re somewhat unfamiliar with the idea of spiritual retreat, consider the following car analogy: You put gasoline in your car, and your car runs for a week. So too, you attend church every Sunday, and you run for a week. About every 3,000 miles, however (although many of us push the limits here), you have to take your car in for an oil change and tune up. So too with your spiritual life; about every 3,000 miles of living (although many of us push the limits here) our bodies and souls need a deeper rest and renewal in order to keep us hittin’ on all eight.
A group of 11 people joined the retreat weekend, including six students, and we spent time together in prayer and reading through all four gospels. It was a tremendous blessing.”
