'Let Justice Roll Down' wins CRC justice song contest
Friday, November 13th, 2009
The Christian Reformed Church is pleased to announce that David Landegent of Holland, MI, is the winner of the Justice song contest with his entry *Let Justice Roll Down*.To win a portion of the $1,000 in prize money, individuals were asked to
compose a song relating to social justice issues. Prize money was split
among the winning entries, determined by the Office of Social Justice,
Reformed Worship, and the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. The second place entry, *We Cannot Know What Worship Is*, was submitted by
Heather Jossellyn-Cranson of Orange City, IA.Song entries could be submitted with or without a tune. Texts were judged on
their theological and biblical accuracy, the way in which issues were
handled, fittingness for congregational worship, and effective use of
language (i.e. quality of poetry, imagery).Entries submitted with a tune were judged on their singability, musicality,
and fittingness to the text. Both of the winning entries were paired to a
previously existing tune.“We often hear from frustrated worship leaders who want to integrate themes
of justice, but feel there just aren’t enough song options out there,” said
Kate Kooyman, Congregational Justice Mobilizer for the CRC’s Office of
Social Justice and the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. “We are
excited to introduce congregations to these two new songs, and hope they’ll
become fast favorites that help to integrate justice into our worship.”The winning songs are available for download at
www.crcna.org/pages/songcontest.cfm and will be copyrighted by Faith Alive
Christian Resources. The winning entries will also appear in *Reformed
Worship* and links to the songs posted on all sponsors’ websites.______
