Project Director Lauri Smalls and other leaders of the congregation met with me on a beautiful fall evening to report on the worship renewal event of the previous weekend. Distributing publicity through emails, Facebook and other social networking avenues, they brought together a large number of people from various places to worship together on Friday evening using dance, spoken word, music, mime and visual art. They reported that the enthusiasm that evening served as a strong foundation for Saturday’s workshop that provided learning in various worship arts for people of all ages. Examples of what was learned on Saturday were included in worship on Sunday.

Lauri reports that the congregation has embraced this process of worship renewal. There is a new energy and enthusiasm for their worship life. Fruit of the grant project is already seen in the attendance at Friday evening prayer times, in an all church learning event and in the commitment of the youth to worship and leading in worship. In our conversation I learned that they provide a soup kitchen every Saturday for about 70 people in the community and also offer a prison re-entry ministry.

We give thanks for this congregation and for the privilege of partnering with them in this process of worship renewal.
