Pastor Kevin Manuel had partnered with CICW through a 2005 Worship Renewal Grant when he was pastor of a congregation in San Francisco. Now the pastor in Bethany Presbyterian Church in Brookline, MA, he invited me to participate with the congregation in a retreat at beautiful Pilgrim Pines in Swanzey, New Hampshire. Using the theme, “Growing Toward God…Like a Tree” we spent the weekend exploring the Psalms. Worship, small group discussions and teaching times shaped our days together. Each small group created a skit using the learning materials to deepen our understanding of the Psalms. About 20 children participated with us and engaged in their own process of Growing Toward God. They taught us The Tree Song and created a beautiful banner for worship.

We are grateful for the gifts God has given to the individuals in this congregation. Their strong commitment to him, to the church and to serving others was a great encouragement. We give thanks for this opportunity to partner with them.

I was truly blessed to have Betty and her husband. God really spoke to me during the retreat and He affirmed His awesome presence in the lives of people at the retreat. The imagery of "tree" growing ..being nurished…seasons of trimming and bearing fruits were all very vivid and powerful. Everyone who attended the retreat were transformed because God is so faithful and so mindful towards us….God bless you Betty for delivering the message to us… Love you in Christ, Liz
