With heavy rain pounding on the roof and a storm that interrupted electricity, thirteen congregational leaders met with me at St Paul AME Church in Canton, GA. Project Director, Pastor Lemora Dobbs, explained that their worship renewal grant project will bring congregations of the community together across denominational, racial, socio-economic and cultural lines to explore how music enables worshipers to experience the presence of God. Many of those gathered this morning have been lifelong residents of the community. They describe how the congregations in Canton have historically worshiped together and celebrate Unity Sundays each year.
This congregation is preparing to celebrate their 112th anniversary. Together we gave thanks for God’s blessings in the past and discussed their hopes and dreams for renewal during this grant year.
