Project Director, Pastor Giorgio Hiatt, met with me on a Tuesday evening in the neighborhood theatre which is used during the week as a music venue and where Christ Central Church worships on Sunday. He explained that the congregation has grown from an initial group of 50 people to more than 300 who gather each week. The music in worship is usually new settings of old hymns led by professional musicians who have been drawn to the church. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated each week. He explained that their 2009 worship renewal grant project is intended to bring together leaders of several congregations to cultivate fresh thinking and promote new conversation about the role of the Lord’s Supper in corporate worship. He was grateful to report that the first workshop which will be led by Ben Witherington had 53 people registered in the first week after invitations were sent.

The project will include the creation of plans for a communion table that can be easily taken down and stored during the week while remaining significant in the life of the congregation.

The lower level of the building is used for Sunday School. An artist has created paintings that are inviting and engaging for the children. A recent project created artistic church pews which were displayed around town and sold to support work with the children. Several pews were purchased by friends of the congregation and given to the church as a reminder of the project.
