Report from Hymn Society at St. Olaf

Posted by cicw

From Emily Brink:

On July 12-16, 2009, the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada met at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. There were several hymn festivals in their beautifully refurbished chapel with marvelous acoustics and a new organ. The theme of the conference was “A Little Child Shall Lead Them,” so several events included children’s choirs as well as the great congregational singing for which this conference is known. Those not able to attend can still get a taste of the event thanks to the live video streaming of the hymn festivals which are still posted on the St. Olaf website.

One highlight for me was the dramatic presentation of the Emmaus Story by Marva Dawn (on Sunday night). Several CICW colleagues were in attendance; Bert Polman led a sectional, as did Harry Plantinga on Hymnary.org.
