Presenter Previews: Gerardo Oberman at Symposium 2009

Posted by cicw

Among over 70 presenters at this year’s Calvin Symposium on Worship will be Gerardo Oberman, former general secretary of the Reformed Churches in Argentina. Oberman is a pastor, liturgist, composer, and creator and coordinator of the worship resource network La Red Crearte.

Last month, Oberman and colleague Horacio Vivares hosted Robert Nordling, professor of music at Calvin, and five Calvin students in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, Argentina, where they prepared and performed compositions by Vivares in multiple benefit concerts for a small school where Oberman teaches music. Nordling and the students presented Oberman with 15 instruments, donated by Meyer Music, to replace ones that were recently stolen from his school.

Oberman’s presentation to Symposium, “Worship Renewal in the Latin American Context,” will include Vivares and will be translated into English by Dianne Zandstra of Calvin College.
